The loose, thick use of paint stresses the feeling of anxiety. In the moment, I took great pleasure in painting the quick, spontaneous strokes. As with all of my self-portraits, there was a sense of relief once I had released this imagery, which I have been so ashamed to face-not just publicly, but even by myself-for so long.
